Dr. Marts | First and Forever

Agyness Dean and Ash Stymest for Dr. Martens IAW’11 started the first instalment of the Dr. Martens ‘First and Forever’ campaign which will run through to AW’12

v.a.u.l.t loves authenticity – and British authenticity is what Dr. Martens embodies in this campaign, from top to toe.

Firstly, photographer Gavin Watson grew up in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, so yes, he’s British. Plus he is known to have well documented the punk subculture of the 1980s and evidence can be found here on Skins and Punks by Gavin Watson, published on The Guardian online. Apparently, he was chosen based on his original photography of legendary portraits from the last 25 years of British youth and subculture – famously raw, full of attitude and very British…which perfectly underpins what the brand is all about. Of course, it was perfectly complementary to the Dr. Martens which seriously happened to feature heavily in his (yes), original photography.

Secondly, Agyness Deyn and Ash Stymest both front the campaign(s). If you don’t know who Agyness Deyn is by now, shame on you. As for Ash, he personifies modern Britishness through…looking like a British version of Wentworth Miller.

Interestingly, the campaign sentiment circles around a combination of imagery and film featuring Deyn and Stymest, on a spontaneous journey of ‘First’ moments and experiences set against British landscapes.

Wait, trackback – did you just see Dr. Martens variations in heels?

No your eyes weren’t playing tricks on you. On the contrary, because modernization brought about the classic Dr. Martens 1460 8-Eye boot + Heels to = The Zita.

A new Dr. Martens introduction that is stylized and curvaceous, the collection offers feminine and exquisite details such as slender stacked heels, fine gold eyelets and lace details. Perfect for the design-minded consumer, all four styles are sheathed in luxurious Packard leather to offer a stunning bold look. The sexy collection comes in two colours – Oxblood and Black – and boasts hardwearing soles that provide good abrasion and slip resistance.

And just when you thought we were getting out of breath – check these babies out.

The Cambridge Satchel Company for Dr. Martens

Psst – we hear they cost only SG$299 apiece, and only the black and cherry versions are left. So if you’re based in Singapore, check them out at their Wheelock Place store!

So why do they look so prettily classic? Well, they are manufactured by The Cambridge Satchel Company, renowned for their expertise in the crafting of satchels, that’s why.

Last but not least, just when you thought they had pulled out all their stops, they’ve gone into a capsule range of RTW (Ready-to-Wear)

Highlight pieces include a donkey jacket, a coat that has its roots firmly in British workwear and was worn as a right of passage by both skins and punks along with their Dr. Martens boots. Here Dr. Martens offers both a men’s and women’s specific fitted jacket in a heavyweight 580 gm Melton wool traditionally made with leather shoulder and elbow patches, but now updated in waxed nubuck and lined with a brushed cotton Stewart tartan.

Here are some look highlights for your viewing pleasure.
