It’s time to be educated on a first-ever 3 way collaboration with 2 of Singapore’s top music labels and the local music institution Zouk.
If you haven’t realized what DMZ stands for yet, here’s the rundown.
Darker Than Wax = The label brainchild of the very talented local duo Funk Bast*ard and Kaye, who form Cosa Nostra. Combined, their sound has been known to be plain, bloody good. More than 10 years in the making, they crack their statement on the pervasiveness of black music and its motion into the future and successfully do so, making them true heavyweights in the industry but most importantly, great guys in the flesh. As Cosa Nostra, they have garnered international acclaim. Besides being chosen to feature in Giles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival in Singapore in 2010, their remix for Kira Neris’s Judy in June on French label ‘Faces Records’ has earned them due credit from selectors like Lefto and further so by clinching the top seller’s spot on ‘Bagpak Music’.

Kaye is regarded as a full fledged electronic musician, able to perform live sax (acoustic + electric), electronics and DJ sets with musical references to soul, jazz, deep house, Hip Hop, disco, boogie and beyond.
Dean aka Funk Bast*rd has played alongside some of the world’s finest like Recloose, Souleance, Pablo Valentino and most recently, warmed up for both Dam Funk & Jamie XX. His span of musical genres span from deep jazz, brazilian grooves, deep house to soul, funk, Hip Hop and Bass, with the aim of pushing an alternative expression of leftfield music through his eclectic sets.
Midnight Shift = Singapore’s first official after-hours party organisation and music record label bringing together emerging and established artists in production and performance in one global stage. v.a.u.l.t takes our hat off to them for their dedication in creating a platform to bridge possibilities into the actualisation of great music occasions, but most of all their spirit in continuing to promote a technical artistry of good music.

Zouk = 17 Jiak Kim Street.
Last but not least, Torontonian hero Basic Soul Unit makes a guest artist appearance under the Darker Than Wax and Midnight Shift imprints, with original tracks soon to be released on both labels.
Basic Soul Unit aka Stuart Li, has garnered a following with his mastery of lush and soulful melodic techno to jacking beats or smoky deep house. Listening to his ‘BSU Mix for Leisure’ on Soundcloud right now, we can see why. Having released music on respected labels such as Philpot, Ostgut Ton, New Kanada and Creme Organization just to name a few, his versatility is evident in a signature style.
