2 British Institutions have joined forces to create a Liberty London X Dr. Martens Floral Prints collaboration. No prizes for guessing which 2.
The theme for this collaboration is deemed ‘an engaging discord’. We see it, and we like it. The juxtaposition lies in Wild Nature – the tough and rebellious ethos of Dr. Martens versus the soft, refined intricacy of Liberty London.
Dr. Martens worked with set designer Andy Hillman and fashion photographer Leandro Farina to create 2 campaign images for this collab. v.a.u.l.t has always been a fan of hardware, and we piped in immediately on the reflected harshness in the grey and dreary concrete & the nuances of industrialisation – presumably representing Dr. Martens
The collaboration offers 2 main prints. Both are represented on the traditional 8-hole and 3-hole Dr. Martens boots and shoes.
First up is ‘Strawberry Thief’ – a contemporary twist on an iconic design originally created by the world famous textile designer William Morris in 1883. As part of a revolutionary group of animal designs for the 1800s, the fabric depicts a naughty bird stealing berries – hence the name. Today, this print is one of the most coveted and iconic Liberty archive prints.
The 2nd print is the ‘Martens Flower’, which is a modern take on the Carlino design originally created by the Silver Studio for Liberty in 1930. Again, the Dr. Martens team met with Liberty’s archivists and unearthed this rare and seldom used print, in its original state. Unique Liberty Martens flowers were borne out of a re-colourization in the classic DM leather colours.
Of course, not forgetting the very cool Leather Satchels! If you’re such a big fan and end up getting matching shoes + satchel… remember the Art of being Subtle and don’t carry them all at once! 🙂
Available in both Dr. Martens + Leftfoot stores in Singapore.
