SKATE SKATE & SURF

‘We Skate in Iran’ by Benjamin Aryani

‘We Skate In Iran’ is a documentary film about the rise of skateboard culture throughout modern Persia.

Filmmaker and director Benjamin Aryani captures the authenticity, love (and even the utility) of skateboarding, and bravely addresses the issues and misconceptions surrounding skateboarders today.

The project was born from a collision between the Swiss collective Cause and Tsixty, one of Tehran’s major skate crews.

” For me this has been the project I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Being involved with skateboarding society for nearly 10 years. We’ve been there through the highs and lows within this sport. I wanted to show you how it really looks to skate in our beloved country
to send a message to all Iranian skaters to join forces and work together for the sake of their common passion to reveal an authentic and truthful insight into a social reality so commonly baffled by false perceptions.

The scene is still skating as of today.”

Directed, Filmed and edited by : Benjamin Aryani

The documentary was awarded ‘Best Skateboard Short Film’ in the 2017 Paris surf and skate festival, “Sepanta award” for the ‘Best Short Documentary’ in the San Francisco Iranian film festival.
