Midnight Shift Launches Music Label with What Else? A Party.

Some two years ago, a consortium of music creatives came together to institute a change in the local scene’s status quo. They called it Midnight Shift.

Now, near two years later, what began as an afterhours party has genetically spawned a new music label arm of the same name – providing an additional platform for the voices of the night to be heard.

Come June 24, the double-engine entity celebrates the launch of its long-awaited label with a solid line-up of emerging DJs paired on the same stage with established artists. Here’s the lowdown.

Flying in from Berlin will be Jerome Sydenham as a returning Midnight Shift guest with a second helping of his afro-tinged energetic and driven sets on the house and techno edges. The owner of several record labels including Ibadan Records, Apotek, Avocado and now Midnight Shift, Jerome will be looked upon as its music director, and certainly one to watch leading the way.

Highly anticipated too are performances by local DJ Ulysses James and DJ/Producer Norman Chung. A regular on the circuit, Ulysses is billed to warm up the night with his educated, head-nodding gems and digs of gold. The latter, Norman, is both a Midnight Shift label artist and scene stalwart with more than a decade’s experience in rocking the dance floor with his techy grooves delightfully topped off with funk, jazz, soul and disco.

As if that will not be enough, collaborating with this already talented team will be one of Midnight Shift’s signatures – a mystery guest. This time, the guest is making a statement with his multi-deck mixing skills and roots in the seminal foundations of Chicago house and Detroit techno. Midnight Shift’s guests have never disappointed, and while this man’s identity remains a secret to the majority, the minority is well assured of what’s in store to come.

A label launch party is certainly a great cause for a music celebration. And with Midnight Shift behind pulling the ropes, this stage is set to be a real roof raiser.
